Earlier in March, Google reiterated its commitment to empowering women on International Women's Day, with the belief that by empowering women with the skills and resources they need, the country can usher in a better future. It can lead to greater equality, inclusiveness and prosperity for all.
Google has recognized the huge potential and is committed to addressing these gaps through the launch of several programs aimed at strengthening equality in the workforce and empowering women. One such initiative is the Google Career Certificates program to be introduced in Pakistan in 2022.
At least 50% of the program's scholarships were earmarked for women only and aimed at increasing women's access to economic opportunities and enabling them to realize their ambitions. The program awarded 44,500 scholarships in 2023 and has committed to providing 45,000 new scholarships by 2024 to expand student opportunities.
Additionally, through the Google News Initiative (GNI) and in collaboration with its local partners, Google trains young journalists, provides opportunities for women to gain reporting experience and address newsroom access issues.
